2011/10/17 - 2011/10/21
Design Workshop of Leisure & Fashion for the Elderly
Time:8:00-21:00
Description:

Fu-Jen Catholic University,

Department of Applied Arts Department of Textiles and Clothing

Under the theme 'Orange Beneficence--Design Workshop of Leisure & Fashion for the Elderly,' we have designed a retreat experience for disadvantaged members of society. It is a specially designed program that combines leisure, fashion and culture specifically for senior citizens. In order to involve participants in communities of care and help them experience the true joys of cultural sharing, we use innovative approaches that are both natural and address basic life values. We highlight the true potential of technology and the natural splendour of human compassion. Worshop activities focus on senior citizen research topics as well as craft design and creation. Program participants from around the world will gain an experiential education that is cross-disciplinary and remarkably innovative - infusing world vision into design work and further enhancing the global reputation of Taiwan in the realm of design and design applications.

About Us

Fu Jen Catholic University’s Department of Applied Arts was founded in 1984. Reflecting the university’s commitment to achieving ‘Truth, Goodness, Beauty and Holiness’, the department is dedicated to academic research and the pursuit and realization of truth, with the objective of bringing balance to social development and enhancing the human condition. FJCU’s Department of Applied Arts is the first institution of higher learning to offer four major tracks, including computer animation, visual communications, metalwork products, and interior design. Our curriculum is one of Taiwan’s most diverse and in-depth, taught by professional and highly qualified educators with backgrounds in academia as well as the commercial design sector. In addition to teaching and research, Applied Arts teachers place exceptional emphasis on preparing their students for the wide world of possibilities and opportunities ahead.  Our teachers have led student participation in domestic and international design competitions, and brought back numerous awards. Department students have been honored with many first place awards at the annual Young Designers’ Exhibition. The refined skill and talent of our teachers and students is apparent in whatever they do. Benefiting from a vibrant, supportive creative atmosphere, faculty and students are free to invest all of their energies and talents in testing and expanding the creative ‘envelope’.

FJCU’s Graduate Program in Applied Arts was established in 2001. Program administrators organize a regular international academic conference series and, in 2007, launched the FJCU Journal of Design Research. The graduate program actively fosters productive exchanges between design department educators from various schools in an ongoing effort to enhance FJCU’s academic research standards and infuse outstanding research capabilities.
