Young Designers' Workshop

2011/10/17 - 2011/10/21
Variable Han Chinese characters
Time:9:00-18:00
Description:

National Taipei University of Technology,

Graduate Institute of Interactive Media Design

1.   The writing patterns in the calligraphic lifestyle:

The art of Chinese Characters is like the art of crafts. There are numerous invigorating structural forms to present the beauty and rhythm of calligraphic writing, such as hand dyeing, drawing, colouring and embroidery, which simply show the transitions between bright and dark, adding pace and speed to lines and curves, filling the composition with the power of Mother Nature. Especially when complex calligraphic techniques and special writing tempos are turned into unique skills, they capture countless imaginations on the surface of the canvas.

We plan to invite design majors nationwide to combine culture, life, elements and graphics into their designs under the theme “Chinese Characters”. Participants find their own topic, study and create their very own compositions.

The workshop will extend interactive designs based on knowledge of Chinese Characters to stimulate social and public interest in learning traditional Chinese Characters in the new, technological “e” generation, providing guidance to appreciate the beauty in traditional Chinese, the depth of our culture, the history and the features of our written characters.

2.   International Popularisation of Chinese Characters

The graphics in Cursive Script are imbued with rhythm, perception and superimposition. They represent the original form of curving patterns, with dark, bright, wet and dry lines that sometimes bend like tree branches, and sometimes flow like clouds and streams, and with their shapes stitched by wool threads, the soul within the ink is subtly revealed. Or with layers added by repeated drawings and cadences illustrated by embroidery, a form having irreplaceable and beautiful effects is conveyed. With the interactive designs, people from all over the world are able to understand more about Chinese Characters and their beauty by manipulating and experiencing them.

3.   We wish to exhibit a new form of Chinese Characters and culture expressed by the combination of multiple materials and Chinese Calligraphy, mainly using technology, art, interactive multimedia and creative cultural themes along with various activities to broaden people’s vision.
