Movement stimulus workshop(Sold out)
Time:9:00-20:00
Description:

National Chen Kung University,

Department of Architecture

The body is always at the centre of architectural considerations, and how the body uses space and how it moves in space are the major concerns of architectural design. However, the architecture and space itself are the stimulants that provoke body movement. Although we are capable of an infinite range of movements, most of us move within a fairly narrow band of our possible spectrum of movements. One of the critical determinants of this spectrum is the architectural environment: the space and substance that we construct and inhabit. In a 1977 essay Yudell wrote, “All architecture functions as a potential stimulus for movement, real or imagined. A building is an incitement to action, a stage for movement and interaction. It is one partner in a dialogue with the body.” The involvement of movement animates the space, and the specific spatial structure contributes to creative inspiration and imagination of the designers. In this workshop, we try to restore the relationship between body and space. Through architectural design and choreography, we expect to create exciting designs combining two different fields of research.

About Us

The Department of Architecture in National Cheng Kung University was established in 1944, one of the first five departments in the university. The department is also the first architecture school at college level in Taiwan.

The Department values the breadth and multi-disciplinary approach inherent in architectural education, and strives to provide top quality facilities, an excellent environment and programs to support relevant research in creativity, critical learning and innovation. The forming of a new College of Planning and Design in 2003 is in line with our philosophy to help enhance cross- departmental collaboration in teaching and research.

Taipei National University of the Arts, formerly the National Institute of the Arts (NIA), was established in 1982. The acclaimed department of dance was founded in 1983 under the distinct leadership of Chairperson Hwai-min Lin. The College provides dance experiences that engage the individual in a discipline of mind/body integration to acquire and synthesize intellectual and kinesthetic learning. With a deep commitment to learning and cultural sensitivity, students are guided through creative investigations as an on-going process of discovery.
